The Purse...

When I was just a weekend girl, I carried a purse when I was dressed and heading out. It would sit empty all week until I filled it with the make-up I'd need while I was out, my wallet, (mans) with money and my DL, some perfume, and , back then, my drug of choice. When you looked in the purse you could see it was just the basic necessities, nothing else. It was, what it was, a part time purse.
3yrs later I carry 'my purse'. 'My purse' has the make-up I need to do touch-ups during the day. 'My purse' has a wallet (ladies) with money and my Dl, my clinic ID, appointment cards, cards with my Internet information, and pictures of grand kids. 'My purse' has no drug of choice, but does have an inhaler, and a bottle full of otc meds. There are also two mp3 players, a headphone, and a cell phone, in 'my purse'.
'My purse' . ...During the course of the day, I either think, or hear myself say 'my purse' 6 or7 times, maybe more. And every time I do I have a smile on my face, 'cause girls have purses.

Purses will change as you do. It was my second husband who noticed that when I wasn't happy with myself I changed shampoos and when the world wasn't happy with me I would change purses. I even went through a phase in my 20's when I didn't carry a purse at all. For a while they were about being cute. Now it's about space: I'm 36 and I have a lot of stuff! I like big bags in leather with enough room for wallet, my meds (I'm a diabetic), a paperback novel, a tape recorder, a camera, a make up bag, a hair brush, gum, baby wipes, loads of pens and post its and a partridge in a pear tree! Love your thoughts. Thank you for sharing morning coffee with me so often!

God, why am I really beginning to enjoy carrying around several different "My Purses?" This could get addictive!

"My Purse" well it changes with my mood, my day and what I'm doing. Everything from a fanny pack, to some really dressy ones that go with the shoes I'm wearing at any given point. What's inside varies, but is always a source of amusement and amazement by other folks. I kid you not, at one point my therapist tried to play what's NOT in your purse with me and lost. At another, I was giving myself a full manicure in a hospital room because I was bored.

So I can so relate to the "my purse" concept. Historically, I actually started carrying a purse well before I went full time. It was my chiropractor who suggested it because having a wallet and keys in my pocket was bad for my spine. A year later, when I told her my little secret, my full name, and that I was transitioning she said simply "It's about time, I was wondering when you were going to do it! Congratulations! That's awesome news. It's part of why I pushed you toward getting things out of your pockets cause I knew you'd be in a purse soon enough."

Needless to say I was amused and a bit stunned.
